What’s New in Trimester Two

2014 June 5
by Becky

Today marks 18 weeks—man that went fast.

Almost half way there.

16Weeks(Note to self: Clean mirror before taking pictures.
Also, get better at taking selfies. I hate it.)

Or in my case, 2/3 of the way…kidding. That’s not happening again.

Anyway, it’s been smooth sailing so far, I have very few complaints. I’ve actually been more tired in my second trimester than the first…so that was something new. When I was pregnant with Ethan, second trimester was like a bolt of lightening compared to the first.

My major issue? Motivation. It’s been severely lacking until yesterday when the nesting instinct clearly took hold because I finished a long-standing paint project, reorganized the basement closet and kitchen cabinets, scrubbed the kitchen floor grout by hand, made a huge batch of iced coffee concentrate, brushed all the shedding hair out of Murphy, made pizza dough, worked on letters with Ethan, got my car registered, sent emails I’ve been putting off for weeks, worked on a freelance project for a few hours, and wrote this blog post.

It was a pretty productive day. Hopefully this means my motivation-less moods are over.

Something fun? Cravings. I don’t remember many from last time, if I had to name one it would be peanut butter. But this time?

  • Rootbeer
  • Peaches
  • Starbucks ham & swiss breakfast sandwhiches
  • Claussen kosher dill pickles
  • Broccoli
  • Grilled artichokes
  • Starbursts
  • Poached eggs
  • Plugra brand butter. Only Plugra.
  • BBQ sauce
  • Mangos, mostly in frozen form.
  • My morning coffee…I’ve never loved it so much.

Ok, now I’m hungry. Again.

I honestly didn’t even really buy into the whole “cravings” thing, thought they were just an excuse for pregnant women to eat whatever they wanted. But dude, it’s real. And now my biggest problem is during this pregnancy, I don’t sit in an office where people can see me, therefore I can just eat whatever I want without shame. Therefore I’ll be twice my normal size by week 32.

The only thing stopping me will be the heartburn. It’s brutal.

What else?

I sleep with three pillows, strategically placed so that rolling over requires a complete bed rearrangement. I honestly don’t know how Stu sleeps through it.

And then there’s my weekly shots. The progesterone shots that will hopefully keep me from having this baby too early. They suck, but not as bad as I’d anticipated. It’s mostly just the logistics of getting the medication delivered to me…what a process. Lucky for me, I’ve we’ve got quite a few RN’s in the family to help me stay on track without having to drive to my doctor’s office (located in a gigantic hospital). In fact, my nurse-lady cousin will be stopping by this afternoon to administer the goods.

Who thinks Stu will be able to work up the nerve to give me a shot or two in the next 20 weeks? He took one look at the needle and ran the other direction…but I think I can talk him into it.

As for the fun stuff, I’m feeling a little action going on in there, which is about three weeks earlier than with Ethan. It’s incredibly fun but scares me when I feel nothing for a day or two. Hello anxiety.

But next week…we have the BIG ultrasound. Can’t wait to find out what’s floating around in there.

I’ll be counting down the hours.

I wanted a girl so bad, but I’m so excited that we’re having a boy for Abraham to play with. Either way I can’t wait to see how you decorate the nursery! You’re so creative! ;)

I agree, you look great. Maybe you could create a “workshop” on how to take the perfect “selfies.” Bet that hasn’t been done yet!!

I think I need to take that workshop, I clearly don’t know what I’m doing. And I bet there are 50k teenagers with YouTube videos explaining the process :)
