A Week of Reinforcements

2014 September 17

After all the scariness that was two weeks ago, my parents arrived just in time to help out and we actually felt a little normal around here.

Ethan had zero complaints, that’s for sure.

Grandma and Grandpa were excited to help with everything—school pickup/drop off, house projects, cooking, ice cream eating, and Ethan entertaining.

Friday they headed to Grant’s Farm—without me (sniff). Apparently this is the season to go, because the place was empty. They did everything. Carousel, animal show, elephant talk, parakeet and goat feeding. If you haven’t made it yet this year, go.

While Ethan is still full-steam-ahead, I’ve slowed down substantially. No more marathon errand-running, painting, or attempts to carry all the groceries to the house from the garage in one trip. I try to limit my trips up and down the stairs too…always a challenge in a three-story house. Blogging has been a challenge, to say the least.

Basically, I’m getting a daily lesson in restraint.

To make things harder, the weather is AMAZING, full-on fall gorgeousness. All I want to do it head out the door for a long walk. The farmers market was a must on Saturday morning. As always, we saw friends and ate delicious food in the cool, sunny weather. I donned my Ugg boots—heaven. Ethan and his buddy Maggie Lou walked hand-in-hand through the market, Maggie Lou confidently waving at vendors and announcing “This is my friend Ethan.”

Painfully adorable. Then they climbed a tree for an hour. What a life.

After a couple hours, I finally admitted I was exhausted and needed to go home. I hate that a simple activity like walking around the farmers market makes me so tired.

Bonus, my parents kicked us out of the house one night for what may very well be our last date night before Peanut #2 arrives. We headed straight for the Peacemaker, Kevin Nashan’s newest restaurant located in the beautiful Benton Park.

We indulged in delicious fresh sea food in a casual, fun atmosphere. In a moment of sheer insanity, we followed it up with dessert at The Fountain on Locust. Hey, if Stu gets an after-dinner drink, I’m gonna eat some ice cream. It’s only fair.

We asked ourselves the usual date-night question, why don’t we do this more often??

Though they offered to stay longer, my parents headed home on Monday. Hopefully this kid waits till late October/early November before making an appearance! We’re closing in on week 34, the huge milestone when most babies are able to suck/swallow/breathe, in other words EAT.

GrandmaGoodbyeIt’s tough saying bye to grandma.

Till then I’ll be finding fun-but-easy activities for Ethan and I, making very small tweaks to the nursery and finishing up my freelance projects. And I’ll be sharing a few pictures from the “sprinkle” my sweet girlfriends threw for me last weekend!

Great picture of Ethan and Sandy saying goodbye. Nothing like reinforcements from family to help you get some rest. Ethan seems to grow up right before my eyes and he will be such a wonderful big brother. Glad you and Stu got a date night..I too would have gone for the ice-cream after dinner. hugs

I think end of October would be just fine (and would save me another 10 pounds probably) :)
