Stuff and Things

**Don’t forget to enter the Durable Goods Jewelry giveaway! Ends Oct. 31**

Week 38 has me going stir crazy…I keep us busy with projects and playdates and cooking as long as my gigantic swollen feet will allow. Here’s some of what’s keeping my mind busy:

  • I can’t wait to watch these movies with the boys someday.
  • Though never all that good at freezing food (besides the mountains of homemade baby food we made when Ethan was tiny), I’ve made strides in the last few weeks to over cook and stock the freezer. My favorite method is flat freezing—works for lots of dishes, but especially pasta. It takes about 7 seconds to break off a portion of pasta and another minute to defrost, making an easy lunch for appetites of all sizes. Having a second freezer is making all the difference…extra room is a must for planning ahead.

New Baby - Flat Freezing Meals

  • Speaking of pasta, give this ridiculously simple recipe a whirl. You won’t believe it even as it’s cooking, but the result is delicious. I like to douse mine with parm and a drop of heavy cream at the end. Ethan gives it two thumbs up.
  • I’ve considered making these “Spiced Labor Inducing Cookies” for my friend Melissa who’s patiently awaiting baby #3…and saving some leftovers in case I’m still pregnant next week. Maybe I should go ahead and whip up a batch of these “Milk Supply Boosting Cookies” while I’m at it? I’ll believe in any old wives tale involving cookies.
  • I snuck a pic of our nurse thank you gifts on the blog a while back but never really talked about them. It was tough to find ideas for what to include so I just guessed. But then yesterday I randomly did a search and found the mother load of ideas! Check out my “Pregnancy” Pinterest board.

  • My book club read the most FANTASTIC book this month. I cannot wait till our next get together (one where I’ll hopefully have an infant in tow) so I can gush about how incredible I found the main character! Need an incredible read? Give Americanah a try.
  • I’ll be making these caramel apple cider cookies for the open house at Ethan’s school…better make a triple batch so we have some leftovers. They taste exactly like the name claims, with a gooey caramel center.

Caramel Apple Cider Cookies

  • You probably already know this, seems the whole rest of the world does, but after going out of my mind trying to get our towels and bath mats de-mildewified, I finally dumped a cup of plain old vinegar into the washer. Now, not only do they all smell fresh and clean, but they dry in 1/3 of the time. Getting all that soap residue out really made a huge difference. Getting the big ole jug of vinegar was necessary anyway to deal with the inevitable spit up stains we’ll be dealing with soon.

DIY Burp Cloths

  • We went through 100 burp cloths a day when Ethan was tiny. The kid barfed impressive amounts of sourness all over us, the floor, himself, and anything else within range on an hourly basis. So after washing them well, I started adding scrap fabric to the plain old pre-folds. I love the bright and cheery impact this otherwise wasted fabric adds to boring beige-ness and it only took a few minutes to apply via sewing machine. Here’s a super easy tutorial if you want to make some.

What got you through the final weeks of pregnancy?

Cooking (and sampling) is an amazing distraction. And my duty as a Foodie committee member!

I also meant to say that we were given 16 burpies (what we call them) and they are now F’s “loveys”, she was so used to resting her cheeks on them while we had them (and her) on our shoulder, that she got really attached. She still needs to cuddle one to her face to go to sleep.

Let me know when you’re ready to go into labor and I’ll give you a call! I figure since my conversation with you sent me into labor, I’ll have the same effect! :)
