Some BIG News
For the past couple weeks I’ve been kind of detached.
Blogging has been more of a challenge, cleaning the house a ginormous struggle, making long term plans an impossible task.
I’ve had an underlying sense of panic to get lots of things packed in to very little time (hence our hurried trip to the Baltimore Aquarium).
And it’s all because we are moving. Back to St. Louis.
****
I mean, We Are Moving! Back to St. Louis!!! Yay!!!
Doubling this statement pretty much sums up my feeling about the news.
Part of me is PSYCHED to return to our old stomping grounds…the city where Stu and I started our lives together. Where Ethan was born. We have so many friends and some family, we know the whole area so well, and how can it hurt to be surrounded by familiar places and faces? I’m totally looking forward to again being a part of the quirky, creative, and historic city that is St. Louis.
Oh yeah, and we’ll be buying a house! Rock On!
But the another part of me is totally devastated to leave…
Our new, incredible friends, this ridiculously cool city, our charming little town, and the culture that makes up the DC Metro area. The East Coast has been good to us and I will shed many many tears in the coming weeks as we prepare to leave it.
What I don’t have any doubts about is my enormous pride for my husband. This is a BIG deal for him. I don’t talk about his job on the blog because, well, the blog is my thing. I’m the one who’s life is an open book, not his. But let’s just say he has achieved some major goals and we are so so excited to see where this road leads.
While we always said our move to DC was a short term thing, I sometimes had a very hard time believing it. We’ve just been SO happy here, leaving wasn’t something I even wanted to think about. But I guess it’s good practice because St. Louis won’t be our last stop either.
I can’t really believe this timing…Ethan just got into the most adorable little preschool for the fall, he’s loving his “Parents Morning Out” program, my tiny (yet growing) Etsy shop has been busy, and the blog is blowing up with new visitors. So new visitors, please hang in there if I’m not able to post as often while we’re packing up our family and moving back to the Midwest. I hope to have lots of fun/frustration/exciting/crazy stories to share in the coming weeks. Especially our “last hurrahs” that will inevitably ensue. AND, once we are moved you can expect lots of posts about adventures in St. Louis—Ethan was only 6 months when we left so he hasn’t really experienced anything the Gateway To The West has to offer. I’ll just have to add an “Exploring St. Louis” tab next to “Exploring DC“.
Friends here in DC/NOVA, you have made huge, permanent handprints on our hearts (cue the last song from “Wicked”). We can’t wait to visit DC, host you in St. Louis, and follow each other all over the country since it’s a sure thing we’ll all move a lot in the next 5-10 years. Corporations and military…gotta love ’em.
THE PLANS
We will be officially living in St. Louis March 20th, so things will be nuts for the next 29 days, to say the least. Regardless of what happens on a house-hunting trip or two, we will move into a furnished apartment close to downtown to allow plenty of time to make the right decision. All of our stuff, other than our “supplies” for temporary living, will go into storage until we find a place to call our own.
One of my first orders of business is to find a program for Ethan to join, so if anyone knows of one that takes 2 year olds and is close to Forest Park, please let me know!
In the mean time, if anyone is looking for a beautiful, classic Old Town town home to rent, get in touch! We’ll hook you up with our landlords.
So that’s our news!
I know, you saw this post title and thought I was pregnant. I’m not, but I’m sure that will happen when this move is at it’s most stressful point…everything at once is how we roll!

Haha, I knew the big news and part of me was still hoping to read you were ALSO preggo! I found out I was pregnant for Otis about two seconds after we moved while we were in MI. Which made me so worried about all the heavy lifting I’d been doing, lol.
Good luck with the move, and I just realized St Louis is wayyyyy closer to us, so I’m sure we’ll be taking a road trip to see you this summer! Yay!

OMG that would be SO fun! And luckily there will be very little heavy lifting—having movers is probably the reason I don’t mind moving so much! :)
Oh that’s such great news (and sad news for leaving D.C.)! Good luck over these next few weeks and if there’s anything you need, just let us know!
YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nick said something last night about Stu possibly taking a job back here but I didn’t realize it would be so soon!!!! I am so freakin’ excited to have you back!!!! Start planning the Work Christmas party right away :)
CHRISTMAS PARTY!!!
That is big news – maybe we can meet in person now! Let me know how I can help. We have a daycare that we adore, but maybe you are looking for something more part time. Feel free to just email me directly if you need something.
And congrats on the news.

Totally hysterical – I am friends with both of you! Very small world.
I want to be there when you meet because hopefully your creativity and awesomeness will rub off on me!
Kristin is a mom at my daycare!
How exciting for you all! I know some people have used Childgarden for daycare/preschool and been happy. They are very eclectic and developmentaly focused worth checking out its just a block or 2 north east of Childrens Hospital.
Thanks Kelly! We need to get the kids together…want to meet your little doll!
I am so thrilled with Stu’s promotion and your move back to St. Louis. I loved visiting you in Old Town, but St. Louis is so much closer to this grandma in Nebraska. I cannot wait to see my grandson more often and visit one of my favorite cities.
I also cannot wait to see where you will live and your new home.
Love you guys.
Yes, Columbus is a LOT closer to St. Louis! Cheaper flights too
Yeah! We can hang out again.
I love my kids school. There are wonderful teachers and amazing families. The school is located at 44 and Kingshighway. Shaw Area Children’s Center. http://www.shawarea.com/index.html
I think we may have a friend in common… :)
Yay!!! Barbara is amazing!! Not like I didn’t expect this…we’re talking St. Louis here. The biggest small town in the country.
I can’t deny that I teared up reading this. I’m so thrilled for you guys but we will miss you like crazy. No matter where our crazy lives take us we are forever friends. I know Luke is really going to miss his best bud. Time for us to start planning trips!
We will miss you so much too. Words cannot express. Though it’s only been a year it feels like forever. And now I’m tearing up. :)
I second Lara’s comment. We are majorly bummed you guys are leaving, but we are super excited for Stu’s new job (what an amazing opportunity!). With how much we go back to St. Louis, we are looking forward to seeing you guys there and also your new house when you get it. So glad you have the blog so we can keep on top of all of the exciting baking, projects, and Ethan activities!
Sad to leave you too, but since you spent half the year in St. Louis (and driving to St. Louis!) we will still see each other a lot. And we can’t wait to bunk at the Gramlich B&B when we visit! Isn’t that what you got that big beautiful house for anyway?
Congrats! A lot of change but so exciting. Don’t delete your Exploring DC post tab though! We are heading that way in May and I need the tips!

Oh don’t worry, that tab isn’t going anywhere! After all that exploring, it will stay there forever. :) May is a beautiful time to visit!!
I am beyond happy for you guys in your next life adventure! But I’d be lying if this post doesn’t make me get teared up. The first words out of his mouth when I tell him we’re going to do something fun are, “with Ethan?” He’s really going to miss his little buddy and I’m going to miss our mommy adventures just as much! So glad we bumped into each other a year ago! I know we’ll stay connected.
I can’t believe it’s been a year since I picked you up at Ann Taylor Loft. :) We will miss you guys so much too. To think you can make such amazing friends in such a short time!
