Kate’s Travel Themed Baby Shower
As I’ve mentioned at least a dozen times, my incredible friend Kate is expecting TWINS in June!
Two babies. OMG.
And, it must be said, I’ve never seen such a level-headed, radiant, and prepared mama-to-be. She’s taken the classes (including a THREE HOUR twins breast feeding class at my fav Kangaroo Kids), read the books, prepared the nursery, set up the diaper service (yay!!!!), and joined the parents-of-multiples club.
All she needed was the gear.
So her fabulous sister, Lauren (who’s also pregnant with her second baby girl), and I threw Kate a shower. One that matched her nursery theme: world travel. Both Kate and her husband Erik have traveled extensively and Erik even proposed while they were overseas on a month-long European getaway. They can’t wait to take little Cooper and Marley everywhere!
Well the theme made things pretty darn easy—the invitation kicking things off.
It’s hard for me to capture with my iPhone (camera STILLLL in the shop) just how cute these invites turned out, but I was in loooooove. They are two layers, the map background then the white text card on top. I had them printed at my new favorite place, The Ink Spot, and everything was GOR-geous.
We just went map-crazy from there on out…
Pinwheels, bunting, food signs, and other fun details were made from maps out of an old Atlas Kate’s mom had lying around. After thinking about doing “foods from around the world” we decided to make things easy: spinach & artichoke dip, chicken salad sandwiches, veggies, and fruit salad.
As for the shower “games”, Kate is very opposed to them (I’m in full agreement), so Lauren and I were excited to have guests do a different kind of activity—decorating a set of blocks for the twins. The whole set of blocks, decorations, glue sticks, stickers, and modge podge came from the Etsy store Blocks & Crafts and Kate’s family and friends had a blast burning some creative energy. I added into the mix some map papers and a few colored sharpies.
Every time I looked toward the block-making table, it was full of happy crafters and before we knew it, all the blocks were done. We actually had a couple guests who were sad because they didn’t get to the blocks fast enough and missed out on the making.
I’d say the “activity” (not game!) was a huge hit and I can’t wait to get them all modge-podged and ready for play.
(Want this for your next shower? Check out the side bar for a coupon Blocks & Crafts is offering here on the blog—10% off! And feel good about buying them as some of the proceeds go to March of Dimes.)
My favorite part of the event was, of course, throwing a bash for my amazing friend. She hosted my baby shower just two short years ago and I could not wait to return the favor…I’m just so glad I moved back in time so I could! But my other favorite part was spending an afternoon with Kate’s family—they are incredible. So fun, hilarious, outgoing, and just overflowing with love. After over six year of friendship (holy cow how did that happen??) I feel like I’m just another family member and I love it.
Anyway, I’d say this happy couple is pretty darn ready to have a baby…or two.
Can you even stand how cute they are?? And to think just one year ago they were getting married…
Only nine more weeks to go! Can’t wait to get my hands on those little babes. This blog may need to be renamed “Preparing for All My Friends Peanuts” because I have so many girl friends about to pop.
Want to meet Marley & Cooper? See them just hours old here.
