Introducing Finn

Finn Going Home

As I’m sure you’ve seen from my Instagramming, our second baby boy was born! Finn Reed arrived in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, 2:54am to be exact. I’ll give more details later…I’m never one to leave anything out…but for now I’ll say things went quickly and exactly as planned, which is quite the shocker for our family, we’re used to the opposite.

Highlights: Labor began much like last time with my water breaking at around 11:45pm. Contractions started immediately and I labored at home for about 2.5 hours before heading to the hospital. We arrived with me at 8cm and feeling very “pushy” and Finn was born about 20 minutes later at 2:54am. I felt pretty fantastic after and was able to attempt a feeding within fifteen minutes. It was like this kid read our birth plan.

Dad stayed cool and collected through the whole thing, a great support and proud papa!

Ethan awoke that morning at his usual 6:30am to find my uncle Daryl (who had dashed over within minutes of our 2am phone call) waiting for him with new baby brother news. After seeing a picture, Ethan declared Finn was super cute and couldn’t wait to visit. Stu picked him up soon after and brought him to the hospital…waiting for him to walk through the door was one of the most exciting moments of my life.

Ethan was in love. Actually, he’s handled this whole baby thing like a champ. We talked about it a lot over the last nine months and it clearly helped. He doesn’t quite understand how fragile Finn is right now, but Ethan’s fascinated by his tiny hands, wavy hair, and “disgusting” umbilical cord.

Things were so incredibly different this time around. My favorite parts were breast feeding and visitors. We had quite a few on Tuesday afternoon…

Two uncles, three cousins, and my friend Kate arrived just in time to pass around a sleepy baby. And before we knew it, we were being released—we asked to go as soon as possible so after the required 24 hours we were outta there.

What’s the same? Finn looks SO much like newborn Ethan. I feel like I’m having deja vu constantly! The wavy black hair (though Ethan had more of it), furrowed brow, sweet eyes, round little nose. We can’t wait to see what happens with the hair! Will it fall out and return blonde like Ethan’s? Or will he be a mini-Stu with thick dark hair?

I will be posting side by side pics of the boys soon…

Home has been great. Finn loves to eat and sleep, plus we’re thrilled that our time away from Ethan was minimal. He had school on Wednesday and Thursday which was extremely helpful. Tomorrow we head to Finn’s first doc appointment then family is coming over to help hand out Halloween candy and take Ethan around the neighborhood. My grandma just happens to be in town this week and she’s so thrilled Finn arrived in time to meet her!

We are so thrilled with our new addition and so far it feels amazing to be a family of four.
