After 6.5 weeks of living at the hospital, Ethan is finally home!
Even after his circumcision yesterday (which usually slows them down a lot), Ethan ate plenty of food through the night and was chowing down a bottle when we arrived at the hospital this morning. So the doctors said during rounds that he was ready to go home!
On getting the go-ahead, our nurse, Mindy (who knows Ethan well), immediately unplugged the monitors and he was officially wireless! Taking him down the hall to a private room to breast feed was surreal…he had never been more then two feet away from his crib.
And, speaking of feeding, he’s an eating machine! He doesn’t care where it comes from, as long as he can eat it. What’s weird for us is he is now “eating on demand” as opposed to the “scheduled feeds”. We got into such a routine and now we’re learning all over again. But it’s great!
We weren’t discharged until around 2:30, so we had LOTS of staff stop by to say goodbye. Ethan was a pretty popular guy at the NICU, so there were many hugs and wishes of good luck. We were actually really sad to say goodbye to all the wonderful nurses, therapists, and doctors! While it’s felt like a nightmare at times, we can now look back and realize that this is all just part of Ethan’s story.
We are getting settled, but we wanted everyone to know this great news. We’ve texted and Facebooked like crazy, but I couldn’t forget to blog about it.
Here are a few pics:
