Ethan’s First Day of Preschool
Summer is officially coming to an end…this morning I dropped my boy off at his first day of REAL pre-school.
My baby is going to school!!! He’s definitely handling it better than me.
He was amazing.
He asked to wear his back pack before walking in the building (he refused to wear it from the house to the car), as if he wanted to look every bit the part of a big school kid.
As we signed in, I could hardly hold him back from racing down the hallway toward the classrooms. He was shown his cubby—with his name on it—and his box for extra clothes and diapers. He was introduced to his teachers, Mrs. Ellen and Mrs. Alex.
The preschool is a Montessori school, which we are very excited about. On our “trial” day last spring he did great…he totally thrived in the guided independent format. And today was no different—he explored the classroom, taking out toys or activities and putting them away when finished.
He didn’t even notice when I left. Yes, I left without saying goodbye. I watched other moms saying long, drawn out farewells to their toddlers, but not me. I just walked out the door because I knew if I said goodbye, even a quick “See ya later!” Ethan would get clingy and teary-eyed. It’s a routine we try to avoid.
It makes me feel terrible every time I leave without saying goodbye, but he is so much happier…it’s worth the little bit of guilt I feel.
When I picked him up he was a happy camper, he didn’t even want to leave! But I helped him put away the pegs he was hammering into clay and we headed out the door. He can’t wait to go back.
Can you tell I trimmed his hair myself? I hope not…
He’s so much different, so much bigger and smarter and more physical than he was last January when he left me for his “Parent’s Day Out” program.
I couldn’t wait to check out the side-by-side:
He is so ready for this. I cannot wait to see how he grows and changes in the next year.
Did you get your kids off to school already? How’d it go?
