Ethan Turns 4!—His Rescue Bots Birthday Party Bash

Transformer Rescue Bots Birthday Party-EthanTurns4

Though it technically happened on Monday, December 29th, Ethan’s 4th birthday didn’t feel official till we celebrated this past Saturday. Months ago I asked Ethan to pick a theme and he quickly responded “RESCUE BOTS!!!”

OK. Tough theme. I needed more.

So when he came home from school one rainy day with story after story about an “ostacle” course they’d done in place of recess, I knew we had an activity.

This year’s party was a morning of “Rescue Bot Traning Camp” in the form of obstacle courses, “building demolition”, and some rolls in the Tumble Ball at a local dance studio.

On Your Toes Dance Studio was a last minute-ish find after I decided I couldn’t possibly host this party at my house. Our kids and families are only getting bigger meaning more space is needed for parties these days, and December doesn’t give us any outdoor options. Plus the thought of having help was very tempting what with Finn’s arrival and all.

On Your Toes was thrilled to help us do a custom party and facilitate our requests without annoying stipulations (must order pizza) or limitations. We brought in what we wanted, mainly food and decor, while they set up the equipment and ran the party.

That’s the “Tumble Ball”, a giant inflated ride for the kids—something Ethan has talked about non-stop for over a month, though he called it a “Fumble Ball”.

After a little ink in the form of Heatwave, Boudler, Blades, Optimus Prime, Chase, and Bumblebee, the kids were ready for the course. Miss Stephanie was our coordinator/instructor and OMG was she amazing. The kids were mesmerized by the exuberance and excitement in her voice. She had the kids running side-by-side courses and rolling in the Tumble Ball in no time, the whole space a buzz of excitement and activity.

Giant inflatable hammers we used to take down block towers (and each other). I mean, what party is complete without giant inflatable hammers?!

It was an awesome party! The kids were completely worn out and very ready for naps, which I think all us parents were wishing Miss Stephanie would facilitate—they were so willing to accommodate her every request.

These two were pretty snuggly, they clearly haven’t seen enough of each other lately.

Even Finn got in on the fun. In a really-sleepy-grandma-snuggly kind of way. To think next year he’ll be running around bugging all the older kids…

While I didn’t think I would like it, having help and hosting outside the house took HUGE weight off my sleep deprived shoulders this year. Ethan was thrilled so as far as I’m concerned the party was a huge success. And it didn’t trash my house!

Can’t believe our boy is four.

Well done, mama! This is insanely impressive given the whole newborn ordeal and Christmas on top of it. Ethan’s preemie and bday buddy, Mae got Jumping Joeys with her lame family only and dinner out. I mean, really?! I love how dedicated you are to not letting that Dec bday stink…just please don’t ever tell Mabel.

One day we MUST have a joint bday party for these two kiddos. Born one year and one day apart, it’s a party meant to be. I’ll never forget landing in DC on Dec. 30 and getting your announcement about Mae’s arrival…still takes my breath away. Born so early and they turned out to be two perfect little people!! Incredible. I think it sounds like Mae had a pretty amazing birthday with her family. :)

Hi there! I know the lego table was the big gift for Xmas…were there any other big hits? Educational or other wise? My son turns four at the end of the month and I was looking for some ideas.
    Thanks!

Hi! The lego table rarely gets used, he mostly builds planes and space shuttles out of Legos that don’t require a table so Id say just more Duplo Legos were the big hit. He also loved his Rescuebot action figures and the “baby fighter jets” which were micro machines I found online. He loves the Grow A Frog tadpole (now frog) and the books were a huge hit. He’s just gotten into board games so maybe Sorry or Trouble would be fun? It’s all space and jets and dinosaurs around these parts so I guess it depends on what your guy is into!

Hi — great party! Thanks for sharing. Did you make those cupcake toppers yourself? I’m looking for some for my son’s 3rd birthday party in a few weeks. Thanks in advance! :)

Thanks Kelly! I did make the cupcake toppers myself, printed and cut them using my Silhouette machine.

Hi, thanks so much for posting this. Was looking for more than décor ideas for a Rescue Bots party, and this really helped. Good idea to do the temporary tattoos as an activity and not just a goodie bag prize! Heatwave is my kiddo’s favorite, so the obstacle course/mission part might be the way I go. Anyways, thank you for the great pictures/ideas. :D

Thanks Joanna! It was a really fun party, the kids had an absolute blast. The tattoos were a hit at the party AND after! Ethan had me tattooing him for weeks. Making them myself with the Silhouette tattoo paper was awesome because I could make them extra big which makes them extra fun. :)
