Ethan Meets Santa!

2011 December 13
by Becky

We weren’t sure if we would do the whole Santa thing this year, but then I was overcome by Christmas spirit and decided it was very necessary…even if Ethan won’t remember a thing about it!

So we zipped over to Capitol Hill on Sunday morning to see the ‘National Santa’ stationed in front of the White House. It was worth trip! And since we got there right at 12:30 when it opened, the line was minuscule. We walked right in to Santa’s Workshop.

Ethan didn’t laugh OR cry. He just kind of stared. Santa informed me that he has a grandson named Ethan. We told him we wanted books and musical toys for Christmas this year. I can say that Ethan really liked the little workshop leading up to Santa—there were presents and lights and all kind of North Pole decorations…he just didn’t know what to think of the big guy himself.

Then we walked around the national christmas tree (which wasn’t much to see), and gazed at the beautifully decorated White House.

It was pretty darn chilly out, but bearable in the sun. After standing in the cold for hours the day before at the farmers market, it was probably too much cold for me as I woke up on Monday with a nasty sinus thing. Ethan also has a runny nose and isn’t feeling top notch. The only thing I want to do right now is lay on the couch with my tissues and watch OnDemand movies. Unfortunately, Ethan has other plans, like crawling everywhere and getting himself into trouble.

Case in point. Somehow he climbed onto the island cart in the kitchen. The kid is obsessed with the cart. I have things on the shelves he can play with because he could stand at it all day long. It’s not very functional anymore because glass bowls and cutting boards are pretty dangerous…it’s mostly just a large baby toy now.

So due to the mucus issues, I’m much more slowly crossing things off my holiday to do list. I think I’m done shopping, I don’t really know. I feel like I need one more thing for Stu but my mind is blank as to what that thing may be. And there are a few more homemade things I’m finishing up. And then there are decorations and prep for Ethan’s party…

Fingers crossed this cold is gone soon! I need every minute I can get.

I had no idea there was a national Santa. Born and raised 45 minutes from DC and had no idea. Kevin didn’t either.

I hope you feel better soon!!

Great picture with Ethan and the National Santa. However, my favorite is of Ethan inside the island cart.

Hope you feel better soon and TRY to get some rest.

Love the Santa meets Ethan Blog.
And the Island Cart toy is very creative.
We’ve got one of them, so we’ll be ready when Ethan gets here.
