Ethan: 20 Months Old
Wednesday marked Ethan’s 20th month and he celebrated by learning to count to 6!
Well, ok, I’m exaggerating. He counted from 4 to 6. After hearing me sing the Sesame Street Feist song about 1000 times, he just started saying “Four Five Six” after the first line of the song. We are slowly working on the 1, 2, 3 part and he’s getting the hang of it.
Other than quickly becoming a mathematical genius (ha ha), what else is Ethan up to these days?
His newest obsessions include trains (“Choo Choo”), tractors (“Tacta”), trucks (namely dump trucks), cranes (“Kane”), cars, airplanes, boats, and any other large vehicle or piece of construction equipment. He points them out constantly and can sit forever just watching them work.
Little Man has a favorite show. He gets to watch one episode of Mickey Mouse Club House on Disney Junior every morning…sometimes another in the afternoon if we need a break on the weekends. Our regular “viewing time” is 7:30am while he drinks his morning milk. He calls it “Hot Dog” because Mickey and crew all sing the “Hot Dog Song” at the end of each episode, during which Ethan dances and even sings some of the words. He LOOOOOOVES it.
I love it too because it means I get to make a cup of coffee before making him breakfast.
Speaking of hot dogs, The Peanut is back to eating like a ravenous beast. After a few weeks of pickiness due to incoming molars, he’s putting away food like we can’t sometimes believe—especially when we are out. He clearly adores sweets (as you see him inhaling the chocolate shake above), but begs for strawberries (“Straw-sta”), watermelon (“Wa-wa”), crackers (“Ka-kas”), mac & cheese (“Mac Cheeeeze”), and yes, hot dogs—he knows those words perfectly.
Yes, he’s talking A LOT, with which we are thrilled, but I’m about done with the word “No”.
It is constant. He says “No” or “Nope” to everything. For instance, here is typical bedtime book conversation:
Me: “Want to read Olivia?”
Me: “Little Blue Truck?”
Me: “Go Dog, Go?”
Eventually I’ll suggest a book he wants and instead of saying “Yes” (which he CAN say), he just does a little excited dance and climbs onto my lap. Other times he’ll say “No” and then five seconds later go pick up the same book he said “No” to.
While frustrating, I can help but laugh at this little nightly routine.
My favorite new phrase is ”Oh gosh”. He uses it at just the right times.
Something I’ve noticed lately his increased interest in his friends. Sometimes there is hardly any interaction at all when my friends and I get our kiddos together, but other times he really has fun playing with a buddy. I’m so excited about this because he’s got some excellent friends (with super cool moms!)
- he loves puzzles, especially the chunky Melissa & Doug variety
- he climbs everything in the house
- he is really into singing songs…we sing ALL day
I’m probably leaving out a lot but this post is getting long…these monthly updates are mostly for me anyway, a public baby book. In a nutshell, he’s our sweet, hilarious, lovey, talkative little guy and we’re having more and more fun with each passing day. The way he soaks up information to store in that steel trap of a brain amazes us.
There was another milestone this week…one a LOT bigger than Ethan’s 20 months. My dad, Ethan’s GaGa Joe, turned 70 yesterday! It’s frustrating that we could’t be there for his big party last night, but we sang him happy birthday via Skype and will be celebrating when he and Grandma visit in October. Happy Birthday Dad!
And happy 20 months big guy.
