NICU—Day Nine. Best Birthday Ever!
Today I turn the big 3-0 and I can’t think of any better way to spend the day then holding Ethan for hours!
And to add to this goodness, several of our close friends are visiting the hospital tonight for a peak at the little guy. Hopefully he will be wide awake and doing all his stretches, yawns, smiles, and other cuteness for the guests. I wish everyone could gather around his little pod at once, but due to the NICU rules we’ll be escorting people back one at a time. But it will be great! I can’t wait.
I took a little video yesterday just before food time, and I thought you would all like to see it!
(Don’t worry, I am fully clothed in this video…it just kind of looks like I may be missing a shirt)

It’s a Small World
Finally, a funny story from last night, as we were in the elevator going to the main desk at Children’s to check in, I noticed a teenager working on his cell phone, and then noticed the Husker screen saver he had on there. I couldn’t help myself and asked if he was from Nebraska. His grandmother immediately chimed in that SHE was from Omaha and graduated from UNL. Turns out she has all but enrolled for the grandson by taking him to Husker games and telling him all about what it’s like to go to Nebraska. We shared our background and then asked what area of study he was interested in. Any guesses? Engineering!! We talked up the school and Stu gave out his card for any assistance in getting into the program. They were thrilled for the recommendations and offer to help.
Add to this story the fact that our Resident, Katie (one of our favorite doctors) is very good friends with the legendary Kellen Huston (graduated 2004) who played for the Huskers and is best known for punching a Mizzou fan after they beat us and Mizzou rushed the field. She said he’s grown up a lot since then! But he’s in the orthopedic program at St. Louis University now and converting Missouri fans whenever possible.
To our Nebraska friends and family — We are everywhere!!! Go Huskers.

The video of Ethan was so precious…He has such a beautiful smile. It brought tears to my eyes…
Oh my gosh! So very precious. He’s so alert. I love the smiles and how he’s just cuddling into you.
So nice to see your little guy!! He is completely adorable, a total charmer, I can’t believe he is already giving you smiles! Also happy (belated) birthday to you, there is definitely nothing better than to spend it with your baby and Stu. :)
