Blue Skies In DC

2012 February 24
by Becky

I made a little purchase on a local mom-focused messaging board, so Ethan and I took an impromptu jaunt over to DC yesterday to pick it up.

Yesterday wasn’t just any day. It was THE most beautiful day we’ve had in months. Brilliant blue skies, warm breeze, shining sun, perfect temperature.

In a word: incredible.

I met the seller of my gently used MacClaren stroller (more on this later) at the World Bank building on Pennsylvania Avenue. I stood next to my car’s open window, watching Ethan dozing in his carseat, and basking in the glorious feeling of the day. Surrounded by people from every walk of life, every race, speaking every language, wearing every different style, all busily rushing to the next stop on their busy day.

I couldn’t help but think about how happy I am. I LOVE living here. I’m reminded of it every single day. I love that our neighborhood feels like a small town while still boasting fabulous restaurants and shopping. I love how we walk everywhere w

e need to go. I love that I interact with people from all over the world on a daily basis. I love that I can see the Washington Monument on my drive to Target. I love that everyone here is so nice and as interested in meeting us as we are them. I love that I can be at the heart of a bustling city in 15 minutes.

Since we were already there and Ethan was stirring, I plopped him in the stroller (not the new one, it needed a little TLC) and we took off for a walk around the monuments.

Yes, we are so far away from our families, which is hard. And no, this probably isn’t going to be our forever home. But I plan on enjoying the heck out of every moment we are here.

Here is a shot of the progress on the new “pond” between the Lincoln Monument and WWI Memorial. Pretty soon Jenny will again be able to run through it shouting “Forest!! Forest!!” But for now it’s a bit of a mess.

I cannot wait to come and visit you all. Still working on a good time to come. Need to get more vacation time saved.

The pictures and your description of D.C. and your hometown are so inviting.
But most important I cannot wait to see Ethan again.
    hugs

It is a wonderful place for sure. Enjoy every moment. Just wait for the cherry blossoms in April. We’ll plan to see that next year.
