Beating the Bug

Wow it was a long, gross weekend.

We’ve been battling Flumageddon—the worst flu bug I’ve ever encountered. Friday is when Ethan ended a very fun Skype with grandma by throwing up—out of the blue—and within hours regressed back to a newborn baby. He slept all the time, refused solids and pretty much all food, nursed whenever he was awake, and could only hold up his head for a few minutes before laying it back down.

It was a very sad sight.

All Ethan wanted was Mama. He was attached to me at every conscience moment. Stu would have been a little offended at Ethan’s total disinterest in him if Stu himself weren’t so incredibly sick. All day Saturday he laid in bed with horrible stomach pain and body aches. In the nearly 10 years I’ve known my husband, he has NEVER stayed in bed all day. He hardly ever gets sick!

I was the least sick of the three, but still feeling pretty horrible. I think adrenalin got me through the day because at 7pm I collapsed in a heap of chills, aches, and nausea. It was quite a night.

The house went to hell (as evidenced in the photo above), and it felt like a total waste of a weekend come Sunday evening when Stu and I were feeling much better. It took Little Man until Monday afternoon to crack his first smile in four days. It was a relief to see.

Yesterday the sun finally decided to join us and we couldn’t get enough. Ethan, Dewey, and I went for several walks, one to the harbor to soak in the glorious rays.

Well we’ve had colds AND the flu, so hopefully we will all be feeling good for a while. Ethan and I head to St. Louis (yay!!!) on Thursday. We haven’t been back since we moved and cannot wait to see our friends and family. We have even planned a get-together with some of Ethan’s NICU nurses while in town—they can’t wait to see him! And we can’t wait to see them.

Visiting St. Louis Children’s Hospital after being discharged more then a year ago is sure to bring back floods of memories! So to commemorate, I’ll be posting the first part of Ethan’s Birth Story on Monday. Be sure to check back!!

That’s your house “gone to hell”? Remind me never to invite you over ;)

Glad you’re all feeling better, what a terrible way to spend a weekend!

Lol, I had the same thought as Erin–your house gone to hell is a pair of slippers and diet coke can??

I hate sick kids, we’re dealing with it right now and it’s so not fun. No down time for us mommies. Hope you guys are doing better and have fun in St. Louis!!

Ok, so you can’t see the rest of my mess—huge dust bunnies lurking in every corner, dishes filling the sink, cups lining every surface, and toys everywhere in an attempt to get Ethan in the mood to play. I promise, it was a mess!! :)
