Art is On The Wall

How do I make my new house feel like it’s officially “home”?

Hang stuff on the wall.

Our only real art is this beautiful pencil drawing by our family friend Gretchen Peters, so it’s always the first thing I hang on the wall when we move. Gretchen is not only a fabulous artist, she is a long time friend and creative inspiration so I love featuring her work front and center in our home. I can’t wait to buy more of her work some day! (This one was a gift from my parents)

Then up went my fav metal molding piece found at The Farm. It adds character to any room and seemed right at home in our new place. I got the “help” to hang that piece. (Thanks Dad)

Next, I spotted a perfect place for my felt rosette wreath

I’m not a huge fan of the green trim on our porch, but the wreath really jazzes things up a bit. And since I don’t plan to tackle any paint changes outside any time soon, this look is a perfect temporary solution.

It looks cool from the inside too. Those interior walls though…I think a light grey is in their future. It’s a HUGE undertaking since the beige covers the first AND second floor hallways, but it must be done.

See, my project list is starting already. It isn’t too hefty, but will still take me a loooooong time complete.

Making a priority list is almost impossible, my head is spinning. Especially when I make a not-so-quick trip to Target and see an aisle like this:

It may just be that I’m completely obsessed with metal stools and this asile happens to feature three of them. Or maybe it’s just that I’m SO ready for spring and this stuff is all so spring-y.

I did a non-house-related thing this week too. Ethan and I attended our first St. Louis City Mom’s Club meeting in our mission to meet new friends, preferably ones with little buddies around the age of two. It was REALLY fun to get out and socialize with other moms/kids.

Other than a couple play dates, our mission this week is to get our walls filled up with pretty things. Because with every nail in the wall, this place feels a little more like “ours”. I have one more day of babysitting (my parents leave on Thursday) so I better make it count…productivity needs to be turned up to 11!

What do you do to make a new place REALLY feel like home?

I can’t believe I walked away from that asile empty handed. I literally just turned, and walked away. Will power!!
