Well there you have it. About a week of nights spent sewing and stuffing letters in front of the TV (steps described in Part I) and now I have a full magnetic alphabet and then some…30 letters and nine numbers to be exact.

What’s the board they are hanging on you ask? Why, it’s a piece of metal from our local Ace Hardware painted with Benjamin Moore Chalkboard Paint! That stuff is super fun and the project ideas are endless. But more on that later…it’s not quite done.

So, back to the big reveal. I stuck all the magnets on the board and called the Little Man…it was time to let him have at the new toy! He came crawling like the wind (note the blurriness).

And he knew exactly what to do! He took all the magnets off and threw  them on the floor. Sucked and chewed on a few, inspected all. Then we slowly started putting them back up. He was dazzled by the colors and texture. He was amazing at the stickability of the letters to the board.

It’s going to take some practice to figure out which way the letters go, and the fact that he doesn’t know what letters are, I’m anticipating it being a few months until this skill is perfected. In the meantime, he has a blast rearranging the characters and watching me spell things for him.

This is Ethan and his new buddy, Quinn, playing with the letters. Quinn and his family came over the day after the big debut and I was thrilled to see what an 18-month-old would think of the game. He was all over it! Unfortunately, due to an “N” shortage, we couldn’t spell his name correctly. He didn’t seem to care!

(I’ll be sure to post picture of the magnetic chalk board when it’s finished. We just have to do some framing, painting, and hanging first!)

So this was my Pinterest/Internet inspired craft of the day/week/month. What do you think? Ready to make a set for your kiddos?
