11 Months Old

2011 December 1

Tomorrow I’m dropping the birthday party invitations in the mail…it can’t be possible.

Every day we see less baby and more little boy. It feels like Ethan has done more growing and changing in the past month then the last 11 months altogether!

In the last two weeks he has officially started crawling, is much more vocal then ever before, and has developed some serious ‘downward facing dog’ yoga skills.

Then, just to blow us completely away, this morning he decided to start standing on his own! He can apparently pull up on anything he wants now…it’s like he just figured it out last night in his sleep and is now a pro.

The crawling is so cute. I know he’s on he move when I hear the “slap slap slap” of his hands on the hardwood. He’s getting into EVERYTHING now. Sometimes I wonder why we even bother with toys…all he really wants is cardboard, tupperware, sunglasses, remote controls, and anything else he’s not supposed to have.

He’s also eating everything he can get his hands on. To our great delight, this kid is not picky at all! He gets frustrated when I feed him with a spoon too much, so we’ve been trying all kinds of finger foods. Some are clearly better then others. Let’s just say he really enjoyed the cottage cheese we tried today!

I’m enjoying every minute of everything, but one of my favorite developments is Ethan’s ability to sit up in his crib. When we get him in the morning and after naps, he’s just sitting in his little bed patiently waiting for us, usually with a big smile on his face.

The picture below is of the first time I found him sitting up after a nap. The crib mattress was lowered that afternoon!

It’s hard to see any trace of a preemie in the Little Man now. He is so active and so much fun—it seems like nothing is out of his reach… literally.

In three short weeks I will launch the “Birthday Celebration Week”, something I’ve been planning for a while now. I’ll tell his birth story, talk about all the things we’ve learned this year, do some “Best Of” lists, and share our thoughts about the Peanut turning one. I’ll post party pics ASAP after the event on Dec. 29—I’m especially excited to share his “Year In Review” video. You will be able to “virtually” join his birthday party!

Until then…

Ahhh, if only we’d known how big and strong they’d be now when we were worrying in the NICU!!
    Happy 11 months Ethan!

Look at how BIG he is!

And the downward dog thing — what IS that? Lorelai does it too, and I can’t figure out if it’s related to crawling, or to standing, or if it’s just a Weird Thing Babies Do.

How can it be that I don’t even recognize him anymore!!! Definitely time for a visit, just three more weeks!!! It just seems like yesterday we were sitting in our living room with our friends, the Dorchesters, planning a martini party for that night, when “out of the blue” we get a call from you saying that we’re grandparents.

A lot has happened in that relatively short year, we’ve made it through some tough spots, but everything has turned out fabulously!!! He looks like the “Happiest Baby on the Block.” Here’s to 11 months!

    Happy 11th month Ethan.
I am totally torn as to which photo to use for my wallpaper.
    Owl Jammies?
    Tupperware Hat?
    Cottage cheese face?
    Red sweater in the leaves?
    What a ham.

    Can’t wait till Christmas!
We promise lots of drawers to open and
lots of things to get into.
